Tecca Thompson reflects on a retreat she hosted that speaks to the power of culture, history, connection, and circle.
A Full-Circle Experience
My intention for this retreat was to create an unforgettable circle experience that blended culture, history, and connection. While we facilitated multiple circles throughout the weekend, my deeper intention was to ensure the entire retreat felt like one continuous circle from beginning to end.
Before the women arrived, I walked down to the beach. As I stood at the water’s edge, I was greeted by seeing three dolphins splashing and playing out in the ocean. Their presence felt like a blessing for what was to come.
As with any gathering, there were challenges along the way. By the last day, many of women reported intense spiritual experiences, affirming the depth of the space we had co-created. After our final circle on the beach, where we honored mothers with a rose petal release, I spent the morning and afternoon processing and holding space for participants as they reflected on their journeys.
Once the last participant departed, I returned to the beach feeling fulfilled and exhausted. As I approached the water’s edge, I again noticed three dolphins. I like to think it was the same three I saw at the beginning of the retreat, now moving slowly and deliberately as if intentionally drawing my attention. At that moment, I exhaled deeply, realizing these dolphins had opened our circle on the first day and now, closed it with their steady and graceful presence.
This moment encapsulated the intention and spirit of the retreat—a full-circle experience of connection, healing, and renewal.
