Movement resources

In companionship with the Reflecting on race equity work video, circle practitioner and The Circle Way board member Diane Jordan shares her list of "movement resources”.

On May 25, 2020, the day George Floyd was murdered by the City of Minneapolis Police Department, my white friends and colleagues called me in disbelief of the gravity of the 24/7/365 experience of racism that African Americans must experience. They were mortified at their own lack of awareness, in fact, the more active they believed themselves to be regarding social justice, the more disappointed they were that they had only reached the tip of the iceberg of awareness and understanding. This list was born out of their request for recommended resources to study as individuals, families, and communities.

These two quotes amplify my hope that the resulting moments of protests become a movement that yields the reversal of structural and systemic racism across America.

  • “Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced” James Baldwin.

  • “There is freedom that comes with awareness because with it comes with the opportunity to make a choice.”

  • 13th (about 13th Amendment)
